GAS EMERGENCY

Natural Gas is usually supplied to homes and businesses in our service area by Con Edison or Keyspan.

Gas is used for supplying many household appliances and systems, including heating, clothing dryers, hot water heaters, boilers, and furnaces.

These systems can sometimes fail, or the piping and/or connections can leak.

You need a Licensed Plumber to install, correct, or repair many of these problems.

Gas is naturally odorless. However, before it is supplied to customers, an odorant is added, so that leaks can be detected before a fire or explosion occurs.

If you smell a STRONG odor of gas in your home, do not light any matches, use any electrical appliance, not even a wall switch.

Open the windows if you can, and call 911, Con Edison, or Keyspan from a telephone OUTSIDE of your dwelling or business.

Your next call should be to Centa Licensed Plumbing and Heating.

You do not want to be left without heat, or hot water for very long.

We have 24 hour EMERGENCY service available, and will do our best to get your home safe, sound, and back to normal as quickly as possible.

CARBON MONOXIDE

Carbon Monoxide is a by-product of combustion, present whenever fuel is burned.

It is produced by common household appliances such as furnaces, clothes dryers, water heaters, ovens and stoves.

If these appliances are regularly inspected, serviced and installed according to their manufacturer's specifications by a professional, they should not pose a problem when used properly.

However, problems occasionally do arise, whether it may be an appliance malfunction, a blocked or improperly placed vent, or a faulty or improper installation.

Centa Licensed Plumbing and Heating, Inc. can inspect your appliances for common conditions which may be the cause, and install a carbon monoxide detector for you. Call 718-229-5335 for this service.

Whether you decide to use Centa Licensed Plumbing and Heating or not, make sure you have carbon monoxide detectors installed and operational in your home.

Here are some places where your carbon monoxide detector SHOULD BE PLACED:

  • Near a bedroom, or other room where people spend most of their time
  • Where people sleep.
  • Where the alarm can be heard
  • Where the alarm can be easily seen, tested, and serviced.

In order for your detector to be accurate, and keep you and your family safe, here are some places where it should NOT BE PLACED:

  • DO NOT PLACE in garage, furnace room, or above a cooking stove (you may get frequent false alarms, causing someone in your household to disable the alarm, or not take the alarm seriously).
  • DO NOT PLACE in a corner of a room, on the floor, or in the peak of a vaulted ceiling (carbon monoxide tends to not settle in these areas).
  • DO NOT PLACE near open windows or doors (too much flowing, fresh air from the outdoors may cause your unit to not detect the presence of carbon monoxide).
  • DO NOT PAINT OVER YOUR DETECTOR

What to do if you if your carbon monoxide detector sounds?

Turn off all appliances or other sources of combustion at once.

Ventilate the premises by opening the doors and windows.

Call Centa Licensed Plumbing and Heating, Inc. at 718-229-5335.
